Jan Vanderwall is recognized as one of Minnesota’s most experienced student transportation experts. He assists school districts in solving complex transportation issues, including contracting and negotiation processes, development and implementation of fee structures, and school time alignment analysis and options – always working to build the district’s expertise along the way. He frequently helps school districts find ways to save up to hundreds of thousands of dollars through more strategic and efficient use of transportation resources.
Jan has been in charge of student transportation for Roseville Area Schools since 1975; and has been a consultant through the MN Department of Education and independently for many years. He is past President of the MN Association for Pupil Transportation, the Minnesota State School Bus Safety Roadeo, and a developer of the Wide Area Transportation Service (WATS) that provides service for low density programs operating between districts.
Jan was awarded the 2006 Outstanding Service to Youth Award by North Suburban Youth and Family Services, as well as 2007 Transportation Administrator of the Year by the MN Association for Pupil Transportation.
Jan is also very involved in the civic life of his community. He is an active member of Roseville Rotary, as well as being on Roseville’s Public Works, Environment and Transportation Commission, and Active Living Ramsey County.
